I was down at St Peter’s Church this afternoon, helping set up a Borrowed Garden. To celebrate Big Dig Week, Harvest is creating a pop-up temporary garden here from plants ‘borrowed’ from community gardens around the city. The students from University of Brighton’s Edible Campus project were there too, creating wooden benches and planters. We loaned a pot of raspberry canes, some scented geraniums and some herbs.

The idea is to invite people into planted space, inspire them to get growing and to see whether growing- edible and ornamental – could work here. As always happens when people start gardening and creating something different in a public space, passers-by stopped to chat. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

About londonrdstationpartnership

We are a small community gardening group at London Rd Station, Brighton - a group of neighbours getting together to grow things on disused land at the station, and enhance the area with plants. We are also a composting hub - and the compost gets used on the gardens.
